Cross Necklace

CROSS NECKLACE

There are over two billion Christians on earth and the universal symbol of most of them is the symbol of the cross. There are many Christian symbols in the 2000 years of Christian history. The way the Christian crosses have been worn most of the time is by way of the cross necklace. Cross necklaces are the most popular piece of jewelry in the silver Religious jewelry genre or the Christian jewelry category.

It may not be a stretch to even suggest that the cross necklace is the most popular type of necklace of all time. The sterling silver cross necklace has been worn since around 300 to 400 a.d. when the cross became a Christian symbol. Before crosses became the Christian defacto symbol the Christian fish  was a big Christian symbol.

When they stopped using the Cross as a method of death and torture the Christians reflected on it as the symbol of Christ or Christianity. Some wore a cross with the Savior still on it and others preferred to have an empty cross which was more of sign of the ressurection. Either way the crosses in thier various styles and Christian cultures.

The cross necklaces were first made from carved wood or binded wood hung by a strip of leather or cord of some kind. Fast forward about 1500 years and the crosses used by Christians developed into many symbolic styles as different Christian cultures added their symbols and elements to it.

One such example is known as the Crusader crosses. These crusader cross necklaces were developed in medieval times and were used by knights and general aristocracy and in heraldry. Others call the crusader cross necklace a fleur de lis cross necklace. Either way they make a great example of cultural affect on the design of the cross and adding symbolism to an already symbolic cross necklace.

Now days the cross necklace is most popular in sterling silver. There are gold, titanium and stainless steel cross necklaces but the most popular by a country mile are sterling silver cross necklaces.

The sterling silver cross necklace is more reflective than any other cross necklace made from any other precious metal. If you compared a cross necklace made from sterling silver cross necklace to the same one made in white gold, the sterling silver cross necklace is more affordable, brighter, more reflective  and better looking.

Crosses make fine religious jewelry. The Celtic crosses of the last 500 or 600 years make for very fine example of cultural influences in the relm of religious jewelry. These Celtic crosses make for fine cross rings, cross earrings and cross necklaces

The sterling silver cross necklace is many things to many people all around the world. There are also many American  cross necklaces to add to the collection like the Church cross, so named becasue many churches are built in the shape of a cross. Look at this cross necklace.
