Who Are You?

Helen Keller once said "A man can't make a place for himself in the sun if he keeps taking refuge under the family tree." If you want to make something out of yourself and be your own person you can't rely on others, even your family to make something out of you.

Of course you want the support of friends and family but when it comes to creating the person you want to be, it has to be your own effort.

Making something out of yourself requires using your own free will, deciding what you want to be or how you want to feel, etc. Then the determination to make it come to pass.

If you think about it, you got off to a good start "you were born an original. Don't die a copy." (John Mason). Society, sometimes even including family and firends have a preconcieved notion as to who you are or what you ought to be.

It's all up to you. Don't be a copy of someone elses idea of what you should be.

On the other hand, we (a part of society) can exert influence to try and change someone which we shouldn't do. The following quote says it best: "We come to love not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly." -- Sam Keen
