Celtic Jewelry

STERLING SILVER CELTIC JEWELRY

Celtic jewelry is amazingly popular. But can you guess of all the types and designs and Celtic knots etc. that is the most popular part of Celtic jewelry?

It falls under Celtic Knot Jewelry. It a tie between Celtic cross necklaces and Celtic crosses.

Celtic Cross Symbol
Legend has it that Saint Patrick introduced the symbol of crosses to the pagan Celts as they were being converted to Christianity. They meet with some resistance and eventually a compromise was reached where the Celts added a circle or sometimes a Celtic knot to the center of the traditional cross.

This lead to the Celtic Cross and the Celtic Cross necklace has become extremely popular as a non denominational symbol of the Christian faith. The Christians definitely helped the symbol of the Celtic Crosses become mainstream.

The Celtic crosses was used as a grave marker before St. Patrick and the other Christians came to Ireland. So the legend of the Celtic crosses is just that, a legend. It is fun Irish folklore.

Why Are Celtic Cross Necklaces So Popular?

The popularity of the Celtic cross necklace has a lot to do with its added symbolism.

There is trouble understanding the complete Celtic Cross symbolism. There is as much or more folklore than scientific evidence of what Celtic symbols means and that includes Celtic Crosses.

One thing about the Celtic cross symbol is that it was the Christians who took it mainstream creating a whole new genre of cross jewelry...Celtic cross jewelry. Crom the use of Celtic crosses we have Celtic cross pendants, Celtic cross necklaces, Celtic cross earrings etc. Celtic cross jewelry is in some respects as popular as traditional cross jewelry.

The modern versions of the Celtic Cross are used not only by Irish Christians but used internationally as a symbol of Christian faith.

ABOUT CELTIC CROSSES
The Circle around the center of the cross has come to represent eternity and Gods endless love which is very appropriate for a Christian cross necklace.

Other symbolism of the Celtic Crosses relates to the four lines of the Cross. Each line represents four directions. East is rebirth, youth, Spring, and growth.

West is knowledge, experience, Autumn, and guidance.

South is vitality, vigor, Summer, and strength.

North is wisdom, silence, winter, and death. The circle connects them in the cycle of life.

Perhaps the popularity of Celtic Jewelry, Irish Jewelry and Celtic Cross jewelry is due to the fascination of the various designs and the mysterious symbols that can mean just about anything the mind can conjure up.

Saint Bridgid Cross Necklace
We have the Saint Brigid of Kildare or St Bridgid of Ireland cross necklace. St Bridgit is one of Irish Patron Saints. Her name is spelled one of many ways: Brigit, Brigid, Bridgit or Brid. Here is a sterling silver St Bridgid cross pendant necklace.

The St Bridgid or Bridgit Cross necklace is just one of many irish Cross necklaces in Sterling Silver Irish Jewelry.

Saint Patrick Irish Cross Pendant Necklace
St. Patrick's cross is so named because of the types of Celtic crosses that were in use when St. Patrick was in Ireland in the 5th century.

Over time many other crosses have came to bear his name for one reason or the other. However the true Saint Patricks Cross is a traditional Irish High Cross or traditional Celtic cross.

We have one St Patricks cross that more closely resembles the cross over the traditional resting place of Saint Patrick.

Triskele Cross Pendant NecklaceThe silver Celtic cross with a Celtic Triskele symbol in the center of the cross.

Claddagh Cross Pendant
Is typical a Celtic knotted cross with a Irish Claddagh in the center of the cross.

Shamrock Cross Pendants
Are typically a Celtic cross with a Irish shamrock in the center of the cross.

Trinity Cross Pendants
Are Celtic cross pendants that have a Trinity knot in the center of the cross or somewhere on the cross for added symbolism and decoration. We have several Trinity crosses.

FYI

The Celtic Cross pendants are the same thing as Irish High Cross pendants or Irish Cross pendants. Three different names to reflect the same style of cross. They all make for great Silver Celtic or Irish Cross jewelry necklaces.

The Prayer of St. Patrick
I arise today Through Gods strength to pilot me;

Gods might to uphold me, Gods wisdom to guide me, Gods eye to look before me, Gods ear to hear me, Gods word to speak for me, Gods hand to guard me.

Gods way to lie before me, Gods shield to protect me, Gods hosts to save me

Afar and near, Alone or in a multitude.

Christ shield me today, Against wounding, Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in the eye that sees me, Christ in the ear that hears me.

I arise today, Through the mighty strength Of the Lord of creation
