Christian Symbols have made there way in jewelry as Christians celebrate their faith and commitment to their relgion. The first symbol of note was the Christian Fish. The Cross came into play subplanting the Christian Fish Pendant in favor of the far more popular Cross Pendants.
There have been other Christian symbols historically such as the traditional pentagram but none have risen to the popularity as the Cross Necklace. It makes sense that Christian Crosses are popular.
In all of Christianity, I don't think any would dispute that the Atonement is the quintessential event of everyones faith. There is no symbol representing what occured in Gethsemane, Then their was Calgary with the Cross. Then His death and Ressurection. Their is no symbol for the empty tomb or the risen Lord so it makes sense for the Cross to rise to iconic status in Christian symbolism. Some faiths celebrate the Crucifix with Jesus hanging from the Cross. Others find that to dark and prefer a empty Cross. Christian Jewelry does celebrate many symbols or icons of faith but none come as close to the popularity as the Cross Necklaces.
